Ford EcoSport Vs Maruti Ertiga Vs Chevrolet Enjoy

    Last two years have been very crucial for the automobile market in India as plenty of utility machines have hit the auto-market and the concept of offering compact utility cars has become popular. It was the Ertiga, launched in April this year with all bells and whistles paving way for the compact utility car market in the Indian sub-continent. Later on in May, it was the Enjoy to challenge the Compact MUV Ertiga. Companies of both the compact utility cars have been putting sincere efforts to attract the enthusiasts and have succeeded to an extent as well. But now, both the Ertiga and the Enjoy have a reason to worry as car maker, Ford has recently launched their compact SUV weapon, Ford EcoSport thereby pricing it intelligently to dominate the domestic utility car market. Loaded with all new gadgets and efficient in-line options, the EcoSport is the new participant in the utility segment race. It is sure that with more options available now, car buyers would be confused with which one to go for. Hence, we have come up with a detailed comparison of three close rivals viz., Ford EcoSport, Maruti Ertiga and Chevrolet Enjoy, based on different factors.

    Engine
    Compact SUV, the EcoSport is now available on the shores in 3-engine types i.e. 1.5 Litre petrol, 1.5 Litre diesel and 1.0 Litre EcoBoost Petrol. Its 1.5 Litre Ti-VCT Petrol mill is potent enough to churn peak power of 110 bhp at 6300 rpm with its maximum torque being 140 Nm at 4400 rpm whereas, the 1.5 L 4-Cylinder DV5 diesel mill churns maximum power of 89.8 bhp at 3750 rpm and maximum torque of 204 Nm at 2000 – 2750 rpm. Furthermore, the other 1.0 Litre 3-cylinder EcoBoost gasoline inline of this calibrating machine tosses peak power of 123.4 bhp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 170 Nm at 1400 – 4500 rpm. As far as the transmissions are concerned, all the three power-trains come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, however there is an automatic transmission option available in the top end variant of 1.5 Litre petrol fleet.

    In contrary, Maruti Ertiga LUV is offered in 1.4 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel power-train options. Its 1.4 Litre K-series Petrol in-line with VVT has caliber to generate peak power of 95 PS at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm whereas, its 1.3 Litre DDiS Diesel Engine possess efficiency to churn peak power of 90 PS at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. Both the in-lines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Unavailability of automatic power shift option in Ertiga’s line-up is its major setback.

    Chevrolet Enjoy is available in 1.3 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engine options. Its 1399 cc Petrol engine has efficiency to churn maximum power of 104 PS at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 131 Nm at 4400 rpm, while its 1248 cc diesel engine tosses peak power of 77.5 PS at 4000 rpm and maximum torque of 188 Nm at 1750 rpm. Both the BS IV compliant engines are mated to a five speed manual transmission.

    On the other hand, rival Ertiga too comes loaded with appreciable features like Anti-lock Braking System with Brake Assist + Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, AC with heater, Power Steering, Power Windows, Tachometer, Security Alarm System, 2nd and 3rd row head restraints, CD/MP3 Player with Radio + AUX-IN + USB support, Remote Central Locking Keyless Entry, Rear wiper & washer, Dual front airbags, Security Alarm System, Alloy wheels etc.

    In terms of features, the Enjoy is also a fully loaded animal and is equipped with Power Adjustable ORVMs, Reverse Parking Sensors, Keyless Entry, Height Adjustable Driver’s Seat, CD/MP3 Player with USB + AUX-IN Support, ABS with EBD, Dual front airbags, Speed sensitive auto-door locks, Driver seat reminder, Central door locking, AC with Heater, Power steering, Power windows, 14 inches Alloy wheels and many more.


    Exteriors
    Ford hasn’t left any stone unturned to make the newly launched, EcoSport a perfect car in terms of costume. Although, the EcoSport falls under 4 meters of length, but its looks like big bulky hunk and has many things to hold your attention. The front is dynamic and perfectly postured with hawk-eyed clear lens headlights, chrome front grille and chrome lined fog lamps. Moreover, the flatted hood with circular edges and heighted bonnet, give the EcoSport a luxurious stance. The side looks fabulous with the bulks on the wheel arches and alloy wheels. Added to this, the greyish roof rails along with triangular tail lights and rear spare wheel are the enchanting features of the EcoSport exteriors.

    The Ertiga in comparison to EcoSport doesn’t look that heighted, but yes it possesses well-heeled and attractive graphics to delight anyone. The sportiness of aggressive Ertiga at the front is raised by its modest cluster lamps, alluring fog lamps, Swift lookalike front grille and body colored front bumper with air-dam. The side profile also have attractive stance because of the intelligent curves above at the doors and the alloy wheels. Added to this, you will have to applaud the Ertiga because of its sophisticated design at the rear added with awe-inspiring tail lamps, high mounted stop lamp, rear windshield with wiper and sporty rear spoiler.

    Chevrolet Enjoy is a giant baby from the company and it comes with a gorgeous styling of signature chrome golden bowtie in the chrome surround 3-D grille and leaf style fog lamps. Added to this, the chrome surround meshed air-dam in the front bumper adds further charm to its front view. Furthermore, you will have to appreciate the crisp crease lines on the hood rising to the windscreen. The vehicle gets perfect aerodynamic form through the rising shoulder lines passing between headlights to tail lights. Besides this, the rear spoiler with high mounted stop lamp gives the Enjoy a youthful appearance. No doubt, the Enjoy is a decent choice available but from some angles it looks boxy.

    Interiors
    Compared to the rivals, the EcoSport lacks that over 4 meters length but has enough space to cater utmost comforts to its occupants. It is correct that compared to the rival offering, the EcoSport has lesser wheel base that avails lesser leg-room space to the passengers. But in terms of head-room and shoulder width, the EcoSport is a better option over the EcoSport and the Ertiga. In addition, the lavish leather seats along with a dual tone interior gives it a premium touch. Besides this, the leather steering wheel and chrome gear shift knob are the other attractive features of the interior. The premium quality dash board and fine finish on the centre console showcase Ford’s par excellency in interior mating. Moreover, the cargo volume of 305 litres with expandable capacity makes the EcoSport a perfect rider for long tours.

    Comparatively, Maruti Ertiga has also got quality mating inside that gives you a feel of luxury. Unlike, the EcoSport, the Ertiga is a package of sufficient leg-room, however its head-room and shoulder width might fall shorter. Also the third row is very compact for long journeys. What attracts you first is the dynamic sporty dashboard and leather steering wheel. Added to this, the first and the second row of Life Utility Vehicle (LUV) Ertiga are offered with centre arm-rests. Also, there are enough of storage pockets offered in the Ertiga.

    On the other hand, Chevrolet Enjoy is a perfect combination of space and comforts inside. First of all, the well-appointed luxurious dual tone interiors of this compact MUV give it a premium look inside. To add more grace in the interiors, the company has used wood-finish AC vents and the door inserts too would attract you a lot. Besides this, the triple cluster silver surround instrument panel adds grace to the panoramic view dashboard. Also, the blue-illumination on the instrument cluster gives it an adorable look.

    Mileage
    Ford EcoSport is a fuel economical choice compared to the Ertiga and the Enjoy. Its 1.5 L petrol engine delivers mileage of 15.8 kmpl, while its 1.5 Litre diesel engine gives phenomenal fuel efficiency of 22.7 kmpl. The other 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol power-train delivers mileage of 18.9 kmpl. (Mileage as per ARAI)

    In comparison, the 1.4 litre petrol engine of this utility machine has fuel efficiency of 16.02 kmpl, whereas its 1.3 Litre diesel in-line delivers mileage of 20.77 kmpl. (Fuel efficiency as per Test results of rule 115 of CMRV).

    Chevrolet Enjoy’s fuel efficiency is so-so compared to the rivals. Its petrol engine variant delivers mileage of 13.7 kmpl, while its diesel engine variant delivers mileage of 18.2 kmpl. (Mileage as per ARAI).


    Price
    Tagged at a nominal price, Ford EcoSport is a wise option to go with. It is offered in the price bracket of Rs. 5.69 lakh - Rs. 9.17 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi Prices).

    On the other hand, Maruti Ertiga is available at a slightly higher price of Rs. 5.98 lakh – Rs. 8.70 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi Prices).

    Amongst the three, Chevrolet Enjoy is the cheapest available option with marginally lesser price than the EcoSport. It is available on the shores in the price tag range of Rs. 5.59 lakh to Rs. 8.14 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi Prices).
